Treatment Approaches

Jamie Jacobson Counseling offers client-centered support informed by various evidence-based treatment approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Narrative Therapy (NT). Each approach is utilized based on the client's unique needs and preferences.

Healing Beyond Words:
EMDR & ART for Deep Transformation

In addition to narrative-based approaches, Jamie also engages with different trauma processing modalities like EMDR and ART. These modalities process trauma through bilateral stimulation.

ART: Rapid Relief Without Detailed Disclosure

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a breakthrough approach to psychotherapy that helps clients resolve trauma and emotional distress—often in just one session. ART utilizes guided eye movements and visualization techniques to help the brain process traumatic memories and reorganize distressing memories. This method allows for the reprocessing of memories without the need for clients to verbally recount traumatic experiences in detail. Clients often report feeling as if a weight has been lifted from their shoulders after ART sessions, experiencing emotional relief and a sense of peace.

EMDR: Reprocessing Trauma at Its Source

EMDR is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. It involves structured eight-phase treatment that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, but sometimes tapping), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with traumatic memories rather than just discussing them. The bilateral stimulation and eye movements accelerate processing by engaging both emotional and rational parts of the brain simultaneously. And perhaps most importantly for many clients, you don't need to describe traumatic details extensively to benefit.
